Terms of Service

        Plain-language summary: By joining the Cliff waitlist or using the Cliff app, you agree to these terms. We built Cliff to respect your privacy - that's a core part of what you're agreeing to receive.
      

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Cliff waitlist, website at cliffmaps.com, and the Cliff mobile application (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Ambytion ("we," "us," or "our").

By submitting your email address to the waitlist, accessing the website, or using the Cliff app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Waitlist

The Cliff waitlist allows you to register your interest in the Cliff app before its public launch. By joining the waitlist:

You consent to receive email communications from us about Cliff, including launch announcements, product updates, and early access invitations.
You acknowledge that joining the waitlist does not guarantee access to the app or any specific features.
You may unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
We will not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. The Cliff App

Cliff is an open, privacy-first mapping application. When the app launches, additional terms governing its use will be provided at that time. The following principles will govern the app and are non-negotiable parts of what Cliff is:

No tracking. Cliff will not track your location history, movements, or routes for advertising or analytics purposes.
Open maps. Cliff is built on open-source mapping data (OpenStreetMap and similar). The map data is community-owned.
No account required. Core mapping features are designed to work without creating an account.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

5. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information, including fake email addresses.
Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
Use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to interact with the Service.
Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

6. Intellectual Property

The Cliff name, logo, website design, and app interface are the property of Ambytion. The underlying map data used in Cliff is sourced from OpenStreetMap contributors and is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or other proprietary materials without our prior written consent.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

Map data is provided by third-party open-source contributors and may not be accurate, complete, or up-to-date. Do not rely solely on Cliff for navigation in safety-critical situations.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, AMBYTION AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS (USD $100).

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the state in which Ambytion is incorporated, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If you are on the waitlist, we may also notify you by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, for any reason, without prior notice. You may stop using the Service at any time and request removal of your data by contacting us below.
