Cliff is a product of Ambytion. We make beautiful, open-source and privacy-focused software for everyone. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our website (cliffmaps.com), join the Cliff waitlist, or use the Cliff mobile application.
Privacy isn't a feature for us, it's the entire point. We built Cliff because existing map apps trade your location data for revenue. We don't.
We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the Service.

We do not use tracking pixels, fingerprinting, third-party analytics scripts, or any technology designed to identify you across other websites or apps.
We use your email address solely to:

The Cliff app is designed so that your location stays on your device. Specifically:
If a future version of the app introduces any optional feature that requires sending location data to our servers (e.g., community-contributed map edits), it will be strictly opt-in, clearly disclosed, and governed by an updated version of this policy. We will not sneak this in.
We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

We keep your email address on the waitlist until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Once you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we remove it from our active systems within 30 days. Anonymized, non-identifiable aggregate data (e.g., "X people joined the waitlist in August") may be retained indefinitely.

The Cliff website does not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar tools. If we set any cookies in the future, they will be limited to strictly necessary session functionality and disclosed here.
We store waitlist data with industry-standard security measures, including encryption at rest and in transit (HTTPS/TLS). However, no system is completely secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your email address, we will notify you promptly.
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their email address, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
If you are located outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where our infrastructure is based. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We comply with applicable data protection laws, including GDPR for users in the European Economic Area.
We will update this policy if our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. For significant changes, we will notify waitlist members by email. We will never retroactively loosen privacy protections without explicit consent.
